Stars in a Dark World

My dear friends, you have always obeyed God when I was with you. It is even more important that you obey now while I am away from you. Keep on working to complete your salvation with fear and trembling, because God is working in you to help you want to do and be able to do what pleases him.

Do everything without complaining or arguing. Then you will be innocent and without any wrong. You will be God’s children without fault. But you are living with crooked and mean people all around you, among whom you shine like stars in the dark world. You offer the teaching that gives life. So when Christ comes again, I can be happy because my work was not wasted. I ran the race and won.

Your faith makes you offer your lives as a sacrifice in serving God. If I have to offer my own blood with your sacrifice, I will be happy and full of joy with all of you. You also should be happy and full of joy with me.

-Philippians 2:12-18 (NCV)

I chose the title of this blog long before I knew what God was going to show me through it.

A few months ago I was reading Philippians for our Bible study group. And the bolded verse stuck with me. I liked it so much I titled the blog after it and then forgot about the blog.

Lately I see how I am to be a a star in a dark world. I work with great people! I love them all! Some, however, are not saved and look down on Christians and absolutely hate God.

That is my time to shine for God.

I struggle to not lash out negatively. I get offended by the things they say because it’s not me they are trash talking, it’s my God and I get heated when you dis my God. I am typically quiet, even if you are being rude to me or hurting my feelings in most way but I do not put up with someone talking down about my Savior.

But I digress.

I want God to use me to shine like a star in a dark world. I want to let His glory show through me every day! I want what I say and do speak volumes for who God is and what He has done for us to those who say “God is not real and Christian are nothing but judgemental hypocrites.”

As for the purpose of this blog I want to help others by using it to talk about what God has taught me and the things God wants me to share. Whether it be a simple verse or a lesson I have learned in my walk with Christ. I pray that what I write here helps at least one person.

You are the bright and morning star. Fill our lives with Your love and mercy. Let Your glory shine through us so that we can be stars in a dark and dying world. Give us opportunities everyday to show Your love to those around us.
